Hi and welcome back to Attentionology for K – 5 Teachers!
School breaks are a good time for mind breaks as well.
In a hectic world, it can be a challenge to put everything on pause,
break from the mindset of school days,
dig deep within,
and “pretend that you are meeting yourself anew.”
Karla Kuskin, an American poet, can help you get started.
She offers inspiration to dig deep.
Kuskin writes with a contagious sense of opportunity and joy in Finding a Poem.
It’s worth the read. See if you agree…
Finding a Poem
Dig deep in you.
Keep everything you find.
Sketch the ever-changing views,
dappled behind your eyes,
rustling in your mind.
Unlock the weather
in your heart.
Unleash a thousand whispers,
let them shout.
Then
when you feel
the presence of a poem
waiting to spring
to sting
within you,
bewitch it
into words
and sing it out.
There’s the invitation…
Journaling requires a little discipline, but it is a powerful way to dig deep within yourself.
Newly discovered you can be a big benefit to the students you teach when school is back in session.
Remember, you don’t need to be a magician to work magic in any instructional setting!
Talk with you again soon,
