The Magic Hat – Mid-Week Focus – 2012 in review

Hats off to teachers…it’s time for Mid-Week Focus!

Happy New Year! What’s under the magic hat today?

The WordPress.com stats “helper monkeys;” they’ve prepared a 2012 annual report for this blog.  The report was published on 12/31/12.

Here’s an excerpt:

600 people reached the top of Mt. Everest in 2012. This blog got about 8,700 views in 2012. If every person who reached the top of Mt. Everest viewed this blog, it would have taken 15 years to get that many views.

This 2012 review will help me further develop Attentionology for K – 5 Teachers in 2013. My goal is to publish a valuable resource that offers insight and practical ideas, blending fun with function to help kids learn.

In 2012 Attentionology expanded beyond my regular Monday post with Mid-Week Focus, International Festival of Attention-Grabbers and The Attentionology Traveler. I’m working on new features to add to the weekly mix in 2013.

Thank you to all of my readers in 111 nations worldwide! Here’s hoping that Attentionology will continue to grow in readership in the months ahead.

Check back with me again soon,

Quick tips for common classroom conundrums: K-5
Situation: Students continue to use lackluster verbs in their writing.

Solution: Show toy cars and pretend to make them zip across a page, telling the class that good writing includes action words (verbs) that have "zip." Ask the class for examples of "zippy" verbs like zoom, race, flash, rush, etc.
